The stockings were hung ...

Excerpt from the book:

“Don’t worry,” Fred said as he pulled down the king size sheet that had divided the great room in half.  “I think Santa found us.”

There on the opposite side of the room the Christmas tree was standing ablaze with lights and surrounded by gifts of all shapes and sizes, wrapped with brightly colored paper, and tied in holiday ribbons.   On the mantel, over the would-be fireplace, the children’s stockings were hung with care and overflowing with toys and white chocolate candies in the shape of elves and reindeers and Christmas balls and holiday wreaths.
